Alyson Kanne’s passion for contemporary music grew out of a dissatisfaction with the marginalized musical role to which her primary instrument, the harp, is often condemned. A graduate of Indiana University, Kanne served as the principal harpist for the Jacobs School of Music’s New Music Ensemble for five semesters before becoming the first harpist to pursue a Master’s degree in Contemporary Performance at the Manhattan School of Music, where she studies with Susan Jolles. After graduating from MSM in May 2021, Kanne hopes to pursue a Doctorate of Musical Arts and continue her work to expand the canon of harp repertoire.
